Its rival is Shelbyville, which embodies the boring, proper, "normal" America that Springfield despises and envies.

Springfield's economy rests on three pillars: nuclear energy, brewing, and waste management. The nuclear plant is the gift and curse of Pluto in Pisces. It provides cheap energy but constantly teeters on the brink of disaster.
